The Gizmos to Buy Your Techie This Holiday (Before They Sell Out)
If you don't consider yourself to be tech-savvy, it can be hard to find a good tech gift for the more electronically minded folks in your life, especially since the products themselves are constantly changing. So to figure out which tech gifts and electronics are actually worth the splurge this holiday, I spoke with Ben Arnold, senior director of innovation and trends at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which has produced an annual report on consumer technology holiday purchasing patterns for the last 25 years. According to its research, 66 percent of U.S. adults are planning to purchase a tech product as a gift this year, so to help you buy the actually nice gadgets before everyone else catches on, here are 13 electronics and appliances that are bound to be popular this holiday season. Voice speakers, or smart speakers, have been big sellers over the past couple of holiday seasons, and Arnold's research leads him to believe that they'll be popular once again, "especially since Amazon released several new products a couple of weeks ago." He anticipates that smart displays--"which is a screen with all of the smart-speaker features built into it"--are going to be especially popular, like the newest iteration of the Echo Show.

Google Pixel Wear OS smartwatch: rumored specs, price and release date
Google's line of smartwatches formerly known as Android Wear, now known as Wear OS, have suffered from sameness and repetition. But there are big changes coming this year. Google's confirmed there will be a revamp of Wear OS watches, starting with at least one product arriving this fall, maybe even up to three. Will it be Google's own Pixel watch to join the Pixel 3 phone and Google's growing line of self-made products like Google Home, Daydream View, Google Clips and the Pixelbook? Or, will it be made by others, like Google tends to do with some products?

watchOS 4 Tips: How To Use Apple Watch Series 3 Workout App
The Apple Watch can help users stay active, track their health data and can boost workouts with the watchOS 4 update. Apple launched the Apple Watch Series 3 and the watchOS 4 update in September 2015. The Series 3 is priced at $329 for the standard Wi-Fi version and $399 for the LTE cellular model. The wearable device includes a dual-core processor, a faster Siri, a heart rate sensor and is about the same size as the Series 2. While Apple doesn't sell the Series 2 anymore, the company still sells the original Apple Watch for $249. The original Apple Watch also supports watchOS 4. The Workout app is also another feature that can boost users' exercise sessions.
Apple Watch Series 3 review: A good watch, a so-so phone replacement
With each generation, the Apple Watch's purpose has seemed to shift. The first one demonstrated what Apple thought a wearable should be, and the second tried to be the perfect workout companion. When it came time to build the Series 3, though, Apple took everything it got right with the fitness-friendly Series 2, polished it up, and threw an LTE radio inside. And lo, the $399 Apple Watch Series 3 became the first of a new breed of Apple devices -- it straddles the line between smartwatch and phone, with a dash of iPod thrown in for good measure. For those who'd rather play it safe, Apple also built a $329 Series 3 with just GPS and no cellular connection.
Apple Watch Series 3 Reviews: Connectivity, Battery Issues Are Problematic
It's been a week since the Apple Watch Series 3 was revealed, and reviews of the wearable device have poured in -- pointing out the good and bad. The Apple Watch Series 3's major boost from previous models is its support for cellular LTE. However, the Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern said there were issues with connectivity during the week in which she tested out the new models. Stern also said there were problems with Series 3's battery life. "You're lucky if the battery allows you to roam on cellular for longer than half a day--especially if you're making calls. And only a limited number of third-party apps work without the phone close by. Most worryingly, my colleague Geoffrey Fowler and I experienced cellular connectivity issues on three separate pre-production models, in two different states, on two different 4G LTE carriers. On the AT&T -connected models, the cellular connection dropped, calls were often choppy and Siri sometimes failed to connect. On the one that ran on T-Mobile, I experienced several dropped connections."
